South Coast Champions!

Newport Junior Crew rounded of their amazing season with a nail-biting win at the South Coast Championships in Plymouth this September.  Taking an early lead they looked to have the race comfortably won at half way, but Shoreham, the top CARA crew were not giving up on the race, and came back strongly in the second half. Newport held on though, and won by a canvas. The crew of Mariana Hare (cox) Boris Hare (stroke) Connor Garner, and Nathaniel Hamilton collected their H&D championship trophy and medals at the November association dinner, along with Eric Williams, who rowed in several ...

Newport clinch first ever Fours Championship

A thrilling season finale unfolded at Newport Regatta on Saturday 9th August. The regatta took place over the 1450m straight course on the River Medina, in perfect rowing conditions.   With the home club's Junior status Fours level at four wins each with Southampton, a tight race between these crews was expected.  The Newport crew had been looking forward to a good season, after wins in the winter time trial races, but early season sinkings at Shanklin and Southsea Regattas had put them on the back foot, trailing Southampton by 3-1, with 5 ...

The Hants & Dorset season got off to a stuttering start this weekend, with the double header of Shanklin and Ryde regattas. Unfortunately a moderate easterly wind curtailed both events. Shanklin Regatta was abandoned after three races. Newport Junior Men did compete, but were swamped by waves coming broadside over the boat, and were forced to retire. Sunday at Ryde promised better. All of the Newport fours were able to complete their races, before the regatta was cut short due to weather conditions. In particular our Novice crews stood up to the testing conditions, for most, it was thei...
